Shane's first race car on his first night. This
was Oklahoma City modified in 1973, "there were so many mods then I ran the consi for 3
weeks to get enough points to run a heat race. Then just
because I had to start at the rear of the heats for 2 more weeks, I won the feature on my
6th start." Back in the early 70's we use to have 100-140 modifieds each week.
Very cool Ascot shot from photographer Mike Authur at the 1978
pacific coast nationals. In J.C. Agajanian's Grant King car
Shane in Doc Garrett's Stanton car and John Sernett in Buzzie's
(Buzz McDonald) C.L. Boyd car at the 1982 Oklahoma City WoO race.
The #65 was the famous Hemi powered sprint car, if you look at the frame on the #65 car
you'll notice the top frame rail kicks down under the headers, that was to accommodate the
Hemi engine that had formerly filled the engine bay.
